Big Spider's Back Live In-Studio mp3s

When I invited local artist Big Spider's Back onto my radio show last week, I was stoked to hear tracks like "Flood" and "Evil Brothers" from his self-released, self-titled EP played live. What I didn't anticipate was having my mind blown out the back of my head by what he referred to as two new tracks.

I'll refer to them as 1) an upbeat, chugging anthem that starts with layered guitars and builds into a frenzied sonic pinata of sounds exploding in your headphones*, before mellowing back out ("Perfect Machine"), and 2) a Paw Tracks-worthy ditty in which samples coexist in harmony with a beautiful piano coda and Wayne Coyne-esque vocals ("Untitled (Laid to Rest)").

And when I say that I think BSB realitically belongs on the same label as Animal Collective and Panda Bear, I'm not saying so just because he uses the Roland SP-404 (prominent in Jenny's awesome photos). It's because I think his music is really remarkable, and insane given that he's just a down-to-earth, realy chill guy working at a local coffee shop with no desire to make money off his music or "make it big". Listen to the mp3s below, generously hosted by Omar, and you'll see how the music of Big Spider's Back sounds as refreshing as his attitude on music + profit.
