New Sonic Landscapes

A lot is happening out in the world these days: heady political times, the new Deerhunter album is finished, both Dan Deacon and Dan Clowes will be at Bumbershot this year, it's raining more and more as my birthday gets closer...and I've been--where? Trapped in a basement working for hours on end under nauseating flourescent lights? Actually, not far from the truth. But we at DEBASER hope for a turnaround soon...Kyle and I are pretty busy, particularly with an in-the-works project that combines some of DEBASER's exclusive musical content with the namesake of our sister blog (actually it's more like a sloppy drunk cousin), DRONK.

In any case, I wanted to write a post about the excellent ambient/noise/drone duo Growing, who I regret to say I only recently discovered, but have been absorbing like sunshine ever since. Their recent Lateral EP is a sometimes tranquil, sometimes turbulent presentation of a variety of different musical tones and qualities. With the "Swan"-song of Yellow Swans on the horizon, I'm looking to these dudes to pick up the slack. So far, they've floored me, and the feature interview in the most recent issue of Skyscraper is a nice introduction to the band for newbies (like myself):

Growing - Swell (from the Lateral EP)
